Parisian born but with familial links to India, much of what Anarkali creates has a cross cultural narrative based on her extensive travels, observing locals going about their business, her street encounters and the splendour of local architecture.
Working
mainly in oil, pastel or ink pen with colour washes, Anarkali brings nostalgia,
poignancy and pathos to her composition through isolation and use of negative
space. Experiments with materials and surface treatment bring vitality and risk
to her work.
Anarkali
aims to transport the viewers into another realm that they have known or have
them experience someone else’s everyday, admiring that which is ignored or
taken for granted.
In the monotony of the everyday emerges beauty.
Anarkali trained at City and Guilds School of Arts and Design in London after a number of years in the corporate world.
When not busy with her own art practice at Wimbledon Arts Studio, Anarkali teaches art to both adults and children on a one-to-one basis.
